Eastern Highlands Health District

EHHD High Blood Pressure Resources

The Eastern Highlands Health District, through funding from the Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant funds, is addressing uncontrolled high blood pressure, a precursor to stroke and heart attacks. Hypertension (high blood pressure) can be controlled through lifestyle choices and some people will need medications prescribed by their doctor. Knowing and monitoring blood pressure has been found to help manage hypertension.

The EHHD is offering free screening events across the health district throughout the year, and is hosting classes to provide information about various lifestyle choices that impact blood pressure and how to best use a home monitor to reduce the burden of uncontrolled high blood pressure in the community.

CLASS INFORMATION:

Classes are a series of THREE one-hour sessions. Classes are a mix of in-person and on-line depending on the schedule. This page will be updated with upcoming class dates and locations (remote or in-person identified).

These FREE classes are open to residents (and significant other) who either have uncontrolled high blood pressure OR two or more risk factors for high blood pressure (like having a family history of hypertension, being overweight, smoking, high stress, inactive lifestyle, poor eating habits, or poor sleep habits). Residents of non-EHHD member towns are welcome as space permits.

A FREE home monitor will be provided* (while supplies last) to all participants who complete the four-session class series. *Persons qualifying for Medicaid will use their insurance to obtain a monitor.
